Potluck is neighbourhood-scale organising and lending, geofenced to a few blocks. This policy explains what is kept and who sees it.
Your neighbours see your name and what you offer
This is the part that matters most, so it is here rather than at the bottom. Everyone in your neighbourhood sees the display name you chose, anything you offer to lend, and anything you organise or say you are coming to. That is the app working as intended.
They do not see your email address, and they do not see your street address. Where you live is used to decide which neighbourhood you belong to and is not shown to other members.
Why an address is needed at all
Membership is address verified, because a neighbourhood tool that anyone could join from anywhere is not a neighbourhood tool. We never receive your address and never store it. The address lives on the invite, issued by the neighbourhood association or municipal office that already holds it: they posted the code to that address, and claiming the code is what proves you receive post there. Your membership records the date it was verified and nothing else. There is no address column in this app's database, which is deliberate, because a list of names, faces and street addresses for a few blocks is exactly the database this app's users should be most afraid of.
You can choose the display name your neighbours see. If you would rather they did not see your full legal name, use something else.
Reporting and blocking
Moderation shipped with the first version rather than being added later. If you report someone, what you wrote is visible to whoever reviews it, not to the person reported. If you block someone, they are not told.
What is stored
- Your email address, display name and address, and the neighbourhood you belong to.
- Things you organise, who has said they are coming, and what people are bringing.
- Items you offer to lend, and the loans made.
- Reports and blocks, so moderation works.
What is not stored
No password, because there is not one. Signing in is by a code sent to your email address. No phone number, no location tracking of any kind, and no payment details. Potluck is free to neighbours.
Who else is involved
Supabase hosts the database and sends the sign in codes. Nothing is sent to a language model or to any other company, and we do not sell anything to anyone.
Deleting it
Deleting your account removes your profile, your address and your membership, immediately. Things you organised that other people came to remain in the neighbourhood's record, without your name attached, because they were shared events rather than only yours.
