Quiet is a personal record that never leaves the device it was written on: notes, voice memos and photographs, kept in a searchable archive with no account, no sync and no server behind it.
There is nothing to sign into
There is no sign-in screen, no password and no email address, because there is no account. Everything you keep is stored inside the app's own storage and none of it is uploaded, and the default build ships without network permission at all, so the operating system refuses to open a connection regardless of what the app tries to do. That is a property of how it is built rather than a promise about how we behave.
What that costs you, and what to do about it
There is no backup on our side, no second device, and no recovery if the phone is lost or the app is deleted. We cannot restore your journal, because we never had it. Export, in Settings, writes everything you have written into one plain text file you can keep wherever you like. It is worth doing now and again: this is the only copy there is.
Why the search tells you what it understood
Quiet reads a search as three things, a time, a kind of thing and some words, then says so in a line under the box: "Looking through photos, from last summer, mentioning mum."
That line is the point. When nothing comes back, read it first: usually the question was misread rather than the memory being missing. Quoting a phrase makes it literal.
It handles today, yesterday, this week, last month and last year, "three months ago" as a window rather than one day, bare years, month names, and seasons.
"Last summer" searched the wrong months
Seasons depend on which half of the world you are in, so it is a setting rather than an assumption. Settings, then Where you are, states which months "last summer" currently means for you.
Voice memos are not searched by their words
A voice memo is recorded, stored and played back, and it is found by whatever text you typed alongside it rather than by what you said. If you will want to find one later, write a line with it.
Photographs are copied in
A photograph you pick is copied into Quiet's own storage rather than pointed at in your camera roll, so deleting the original later does not empty a page of the journal. There is also no way to backdate an entry, so a note written today about last Tuesday searches as today.
The unlock
Quiet keeps fifty entries for free. Unlocking removes the limit for good: one payment, no subscription, nothing to renew and nothing to cancel. The price on the unlock button comes from the App Store for your own country rather than from this page. The unlock is remembered on the device, so the app works with no signal at all.
Restoring a purchase
Settings, then Restore a previous purchase. It asks the App Store what your Apple account already owns, and it is there whether or not this device believes it is unlocked. If a restore finds nothing, check you are signed in with the Apple ID that bought it, which is the cause almost every time.
Refunds
Apple is the merchant of record, so refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue one.
Deleting
Settings, then Delete everything. It removes the entries and the photograph and recording files themselves, immediately: a delete that leaves the files on disk is not a delete. Export first if there is anything you want, because there is nothing on our side to restore from.
What the app asks for
- The microphone, when you press record.
- Your photo library, when you pick a photograph to copy in.
Nothing else. No location, no contacts, no calendar, no notifications, no analytics and no advertising identifier. The full policy is at carrierpress.com/quiet/privacy, and it is short: the only outside party involved at all is Apple, which handles the purchase and tells us only that one was made.
